I've been complaining about my accommodations, so I thought I should write a few positive things to make up for it. I've been in this city for seventeen years now. I wouldn't have lasted that long if I'd have been unhappy with my living conditions the whole time. My first home here was a bachelor suite on the east side. I stayed there until I met my ex girlfriend. Together we found an apartment in the Commercial Drive area. Commercial Drive has a large Portuguese population, especially from the island of Lesbos. I liked it there. A few years later we broke up and I ended up in a hotel room in Gastown. Gastown is very historic and interesting, but it gets noisy on the weekend. I stayed there about eight months and then got a room back near Commercial Drive. I liked my room, but my landlord kept moving me around the neighbourhood as he proceeded with his demolition and reconstruction plans. I finally had enough of this treatment and grabbed a one bedroom apartment. This was where I lived when the world discovered me. It was a decent place with no infestations, but it cost over a thousand dollars a month. I don't know how I lasted there so long after I left my full-time job. Just stubborn, I guess. But as long as I relied on public assistance, my return to my old building in Gastown was inevitable. I imagine I would still be there if I hadn't received so much unwanted attention from strangers in the street. However, the women in that building treated me very respectfully. My current location lies between Gastown and Commercial Drive. It is a nice old building with lots of character, and I'm dressing up my room. It appears to be clean. Since I tossed out the mattress, I have had no problems. Above all, it is private and tranquil. Hope I can last there until I can move into my new castle. |
